DIY Shampoo

I’ve written this recipe for several forums and decided it was time to share it here. If you’re looking for an inexpensive recipe for shampoo that’s safe for you and your little one, it’s quite simple.
Baking soda & water…
It’s that simple. The more water you add, the more watery the substance. If you want to tailor it more towards certain concerns, you can add vitamin E or jojoba oil for conditioning and an essential oil for smell. Different essential oils are used for different purposes so make sure you are using a pure oil and that you understand what they are designed to do. Lavender is a good one and tea tree oil is as well. You would only use a few drops of these however. Too much can add skin irritation and you should always do a skin test before putting it on your baby.
If you’re looking for suds, castile soap is a good option. Like baking soda, you can add oils for different effects. This has a tendency to burn if it gets in eyes though, so be careful.
For a good DIY Conditioner or to remove build up from the Baking Soda shampoo, use some Apple Cider Vinegar. Pour some in a reusable bottle (such as an old shampoo bottle) and squeeze some on the scalp. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes and then rinse. Coconut oil is also a great conditioner. It needs to be left on for an hour and then rinsed, but I prefer the smell of coconut oil to that of the vinegar.
Happy ‘poo’ing!
