A “free” entryway

We had wasted space at the bottom of our stairs and needed more storage. The solution? Repurposed items found free around our home and some from a friend.

A milk crate or file crate is the perfect solution for those wet rain boots. The holes allow the water to drain through the bottom. You can put a microfiber cloth underneath the crate to absorb the water.

Milk crates are repurposed for cubby style storage — the perfect place for bags, storage cubes or containers, lunchboxes, etc. (I plan to paint these black to match.)

The table pictured center was left behind by the previous tenants. It was a microwave cart on casters. The casters were removed, the table was painted black, and the hardware was changed. The bottom knobs were painted silver. It’s perfect for sitting laundry baskets on to tote upstairs and the drawer holds a travel sewing kit and other things that we need to grab on-the-go.

Two hook racks above hold coats, reusable grocery bags, and slings.

Total price of the entryway? FREE. Be creative! Reorganizing and repurposing can give you a new space.
