When we moved into our new home we found wall-to-wall Berber carpet that had seen better days. While the cost of replacing all the flooring is something left to be desired, I was still curious to see what types of green options are out there. I contacted the wonderful representatives at Merida and they were gracious enough to send me several samples of their new flooring – the Pure Collection.

Merida truly is about more than the bottom line and they prove it every day. Their commitment to sustainability begins with using rapidly renewable materials like abaca, seagrass, jute, paper, sisal and wool and following eco-friendly design and manufacturing practices. It continues with their efforts to promote the social and economic health of the local communities where their suppliers and manufacturers are based. Merida even has a director of sustainability whose role is to continually strengthen their commitment to sustainability by ensuring it is an essential element of everything they do.

What makes Pure different?

It’s 100% natural, biodegradable, compostable and provides all the unique comfort and benefits of natural wool:

  • Low VOC emission
    Moisture regulating
    Dust and pollutant absorbing
    Sound dampening
    Natural fire resistance
    Natural stain and dirt resistance
    Heat and cold insulating

What I love about it especially is that it’s non-allergenic. I have horrible allergies to lots of different things and we have two indoor dogs. One of which sheds. Berber carpet is said to be non-allergenic, but I find it to be uncomfortable and when it unravels in one place, you run the risk of unravelling large sections of your carpet. We’re experiencing this now. It’s quite a pain. The Pure collection, has even less “fluff” and is a lot more comfortable! I was pleasantly surprised. At first glance, it appears as though it may be coarse and have no comfort. It was quite the opposite.

They were kind enough to send me a sample rug that was small, but just enough for our tiny bathroom pedestal sink. This proved to be a great test of how the carpet felt during make up application and teeth brushing. Merida is quality flooring with sleek eco-friendly style. You can purchase it in several different patterns, styles, and colors.

The Pure Collection is $6.64 per square foot. If you’re interested in viewing it or inquiring about other flooring prices, visit them here.  They even offer samples to try before you buy. Any conscious shopper wants that option when making such a large purchase so I give Merida an A+ for that maneuver. I would recommend Merida if you’re looking for quality and comfortable eco-friendly flooring.

I received these products free of charge and all opinions expressed are my own.
