our greatest ally in the march towards a more sustainable  future.

Let me just begin by saying a huge THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Magnolia Organics for giving me the opportunity to promote this
wonderful company! I adore the colors and simplicity of their organic bedding! This was such an honor.

Second, let me just tell you how GIDDY I was when I opened these packages. I will not post the pictures of my jumping for joy on the bed once I got these beautiful organic cotton sheets on it, but it was sooo much fun!

Get ready for some pictures!

Their sheets and duvet covers come in these wonderful messenger style reusable bags. They would be perfect for carrying a laptop (in a padded sleeve) or for many other uses. They have a long strap you can wear across body. They have a button closure (shown) and the beautiful printed logo shown above. I was shocked to find that not only had they packaged
eco-friendly, but in something USEFUL! That in itself was truly
impressive.

Then I peeked inside the bag:

It’s GREY! This was like Christmas. I did not tell Magnolia Organics
my colors or what colors I wanted to review because being given this
opportunity I was just thrilled. However, they must have read my mind!
Our bedroom is painted in a light grey by Freshaire that I ADORE. I
love grey. It’s still a neutral, but it feels clean to me. I try to keep
our bedroom pretty clutter-free and it is not wall-to-wall furniture.
With my mind usually focusing on 500 things at once, I want to be
undistracted and comfortable at bedtime. The bedding in our bedroom was
not anything special. In fact, it didn’t even match. Not only did the duvet
and sheet set compliment each other, but it compliments our room so well!!! Better than I could’ve ever imagined!

As you can see – the duvet cover is freshly wrinkled from packaging. Totally MY FAULT for being so eager to get this on the bed and see how it looks. I simply couldn’t wait! The Duvet comes with two shams and is striped. You can see the pillowcases that match the sheet set and offer a checked patern.
I LOVE mixing patterns. It’s absolutely perfect.

Now
for the truly important part… the feel…

My husband is not one to comment on these things. As long as I don’t do something terribly ugly he usually lets me decorate, organize, and pick color
schemes as I like. I presented him with the sheets and the duvet cover
so he could feel the difference between a regular cotton sheet and an
Organic Cotton sheet… his expression: “NIIIIICE!” A simple word to
you, but a definite compliment to Magnolia Organics! The
difference in texture is obvious. Once you feel organic cotton, you
won’t want to go back! It feels so much nicer! Our old bed is truly MUCH
more comfortable now it’s decorated in Magnolia Organics organic
cotton! I cannot say enough about how I pleased I am with these
products. I will say that you HAVE TO TRY THEM YOURSELF! I’m sure you will be as impressed as I am! They offer such a variety of colors,
prices, and threadcount that you are sure to find something you’ll love!
Better yet, you can give your bed an entire new look for under $100!

Check out everything they have to offer at their website and on Amazon.com!

I’m going to have to purchase more bed pillows so I can put the matching duvet shams on the bed! I’m a VISUAL person. I normally would’ve washed the Duvet as I washed the sheets, but for the sake of putting the look together, I just had to put this on for pictures. I have really achieved a place of happiness and peaceful sleeping with the help of Magnolia Organics!

I just LOVE my new bedding and you will love yours too!

I have one more post to make about a Magnolia Organics product, but
you’ll just have to stay tuned!

While you’re waiting, check out their website to see their produce bags, eco-friendly tote bags, compostable trash bags, and more!

I selected a box by a really experienced shopper and was really impressed with the brands. A couple of these pieces are Calvin Klein and there are other namebrands as well. You get a description of the clothing items that are in the box so you know what to expect. I recommend that you pay attention to ratings and descriptions of clothing when selecting so you get a good selection of what you want. The Golden Prince

The Golden Prince

Any readers amongst my readers?

‘If you like Philippa Gregory you’ll love this!’ Nora Roberts

About The Golden Prince:

Edward VIII became notorious for abandoning the throne for Mrs Simpson, but in the summer of 1911 he was a prince straight from the pages of a fairy-tale. Raised by the harsh disciplinarian King George V and his unfeeling Queen Mary, the prince longed for the warmth that had been deprived of him.

The high society Houghton girls’ lives however, were full of fun, both at their magnificent family seat Snowberry, and at the whirlwind of glamorous parties which punctuated their lives. When a moment of serendipity brings Edward and Lily Houghton together, the pressures of a stuffy court are replaced with the lightness that Edward has dreamt of.
But a future monarch could not choose his own Queen, and even an enduring love might falter under the furious gaze of a King. Could the devotion of Edward and Lily triumph against him and the impending doom of World War I? Or would they bow to the inevitable and set in train events that could bring down the Crown, and change the course of history forever?

About the Author:

Rebecca Dean is a pen-name of best-selling novelist Margaret Pemberton. Married and with five adult children she is a former chairwoman of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and lives in Whitstable Kent. THE GOLDEN PRINCE is her thirty-sixth novel and was born out of her fascination with the multi-layered character of Edward V111.

30 Minute Slippers

I can’t take credit for this tutorial at all, but it’s too cute not to share! Alisa Burke shared this tutorial with everyone here on her blog. Personally I think hers are to-die-for, but I lack the patience to put as much effort as she did into her beautiful slippers!

These easy slippers took 30 minutes and only some felt and minky fabric that I had in my sewing cabinet!

As you can see by the blur of toes and blue pjs, I had a little help making these. 🙂

I traced my existing slipper onto felt.

I started by tracing my existing slipper onto some felt. For some reason, months ago I thought it was a good idea to purchase 2 yards of pink felt. (Probably because it was on sale.) I had no clear objective in mind for this, but somehow I must’ve known there would be a fabulous tutorial in my future. I also had some left over girly minky from a tag toy that I made B after he was born.

Minky layers on top of felt.

I cut the tops to be slightly larger than the bottoms, by tracing wider around the bottoms. I cut out whimsical hearts and used some felt ribbon to the trim them.

The Tops

These are nothing fancy and obviously homemade. As you can see by Alisa’s tutorial, you can really make these beautiful!

The end result of these is pretty cute. They are really warm and very soft. They can also be easily tossed in the washing machine for cleaning! Consider making some of these as gifts! I think they would make a fabulous Christmas present!

For me, these were eco-friendly. I used only materials that I already had. I realize not everyone has a sewing room with lots of fabric, but if you were to purchase to make these, you wouldn’t spend a lot! Felt sheets are on average 29 cents per sheet. You’d need 2 sheets for the bottom and one for the tops. One quarter of a yard would be plenty in your choice of fleece or minky fabric. You could cut up old sweatpants even! Be creative!

Happy sewing! I am off to finish Christmas pillowcases!

Again, this tutorial is NOT my own. Please view Alisa Burke’s original work here for your own inspiration!

DIY Christmas Ornaments

I store our Christmas ornaments in one of those divided ornament protecting boxes. It turns out it will protect them as long as they don’t fall from a tower of boxes five feet off the ground. Eek! Sooo… I broke the majority of our glass ornaments shortly before we moved when they fell off a tower of storage boxes. Now I’ve got to make some ornaments!

I found these whimsical wooden “frames” at Michael’s ages ago on clearance. I had no idea what I’d do with them at the time but they were around 30 cents each so I couldn’t resist. Using some recycled ribbon from my baby shower and some photos of my favorite guy, I turned these frames into cute ornaments in just minutes.

These were plain wood. I painted them Silver.

Sorry for the grainy pictures. I miss my camera. 😦

I used my heavy duty stapler to staple the photos to the back. Easy Peasy!

I think these turned out pretty darn cute! An idea like this would make great gift tags as well! Personalize presents by making ornaments to use as tags instead of purchasing those sticker labels and such!
